Forget what you’ve learned about marketing. This workshop will encourage you to go back to basics. At its core, marketing is about communication between human beings.

By considering humans, whether it’s you, your team, or your audience/customers, you’ll have a better sense of what’s important when it comes to marketing.

Lose the jargon. Lead generation. Nurturing. Conversions. They have their place. But, remember, language is powerful. It shapes how we see and think about things. It can make us forget what’s important.

Marketing is about connecting with and speaking to people… your people.

When marketing works… you’re reaching people that want to hear from you. You’re helping people get to know you. You’re giving them all the information they need to decide if your product/service is right for them.

Good marketing has always started with centering people.

In this workshop, we’ll explore:

  • This is one of the most common sentiments that I encounter when I interact with other business owners. Yet, often there is a lack of clarity around what that “help” looks like. After a bit of pondering, they might say, “everything?” It makes sense because people tend to feel overwhelmed with marketing. It feels like there’s always something more you should be doing!

    I’ll walk through how you might identify what kind of help you actually need. AND how you can take steps to address that need.

  • Being completely transparent, these are “pain points.” I think it’s important to name them… Feeling like you’re putting more into your marketing than you are getting. Feeling like what you do is pointless. Or that there’s a never ending list of things to do—none of which seem to move the needle as much as you want it to.

    The most common dilemma that small businesses face, in my experience, is managing the following hand that we’re dealt: limited time, energy, money, and resources. The trick here is learning how to account for all of these limitations. Furthermore, how do we make space for our humanity while doing it.

  • Let’s put mainstream marketing advice to the side for a second. (I’ll share how to be discerning—AKA bullshit detecting—of information you come across, by the way.)

    I’ll cover the essentials of building a marketing approach that works for you. From considering your capacity to building good habits… to how you can prioritize what you need to do vs. what you think you “should” do.

  • Business isn’t conducted in a vacuum. We are at the whims of the systems that govern us and what happens in the world around us. This workshop will be rooted in how small businesses are navigating reality in 2023.

    For example, the internet and social media as we have known it is changing rapidly before our eyes, How do we grapple with the implications?

    How do we center our collective humanity while trying to survive under late-stage capitalism? How do we make room for rest and play… pleasure and joy?

  • My goal with this session is to make sure that it’s useful for you. Marketing is a lot after all! There are whole books and courses that cover marketing.

    What I can do in this 90-min session is give you the tools and frameworks to be more discerning when it comes to your approach to marketing.

I created this workshop because I see small businesses, solo entrepreneurs, and freelancers encounter many of the same challenges.

After years of practical experience trying to deal with these things, I want to share my knowledge to support others who might be facing the same thing. I’m sharing unconventional ways to approach these issues that the mainstream business/marketing world does not delve into as much. I hope these will provide shifts that help you in how you approach marketing so that it feels good—and works—for you.

If this is our only contact with each other, my hope is that you’ll have gained something valuable from it. Of course, I’d be excited and would welcome exploring further collaborations with people if it’s the right fit, but that would simply be the cherry on top of this sundae!
